Help with improving bass

Hey guys, I posted this in the audio forum but it was not getting many hits. I really need to make up my mind on this by tomorrow afternoon since other people are looking at purchasing it as well. Any help would be GREAT!

I do not know much about subs and amps at all. I have been doing some research, but have been getting confused. I am looking to get some more bass for my G37 Sedan.

Someone is selling a Kicker Sub and Amp. The sub is a Comp CVR 12 with box and the Amp is a kicker amp 400.1 What do you guys think? Is this a good combination, and if so, how much would you pay for both of them? They are about a year old. He said I can come by and listen to it as he still has it installed, but he does live about an hour away. I would like to know what I am getting myself into before driving out there. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, I would get new audio stuff..... Electronics always break. I never trust anyone if they kept their amp from a heated installed area and so forth. If you want a little bit of bass, then just get a 2 channel amp with small wattage output. The kicker 12"s will give you the best of low and high db bass

Well I trust the guy that is selling the equipment. It is a friend of a friend. He is selling it for $145 for both the sub and amp. What do you guys think? Is it worth it, also is this a good combo for both. Lastly, does anyone have a recommendation for which amp wire kit to get? Thanks.

go w/ a 4 gauge wiring kit. I used to always have an extra fuse relay near the battery so I can shut the power on and off.

make sure a professional shop will do the install. the worst thing is to have a crappy install job, especially having a ground wire make noise into the radio.

Doesn't the studio on wheels provide enough bass for you?

I was thinking about getting best buy to have it installed, $70 seems reasonable to me.

As for the studio on wheels having enough bass, not even close. I am very disappointed with this Bose system. Every vehicle that I have had in the past had a better system then this. After having a 96 I30t way back in the day that had an excellent bose system, I was hoping for something similar in the G...

Warning!!!! If you get the sub installed there's no going back. EVER. Seriously though, I installed mine myself and if I can do it anyone anywhere in the world can do it themself. There are a couple of great write ups on how the get it done yourself. Took me about 6hrs and the hardest part was putting the trunk back together. I needed to do it a couple of times because as I was putting it back together the ground got dislodged and took me sometime to figure out what was wrong. The kit that I bought was 0awg but with only like 2ft of ground. 0awg is overkill so go with like a 4awg kit.
Give it a shot installing it yourself, its easier than you think.

I totally agree with Blackfunk - a sub makes so much difference. A sub in my trunk made the base system sound badass, if you can believe that. Having that low end on everything, cutting through road noise and traffic, makes the system seem so much louder and have more presence at low volumes. I no longer feel the need to blast my stereo after getting a sub - low to mid volume is now sufficient, and so much better sounding.
