I don't think I have the 'flare' issue, but there is some throttle lag when 'punching' it while in D or DS mode. Once the tranny actually shifts, it takes off like a rocket. I have had the harsh downshift tranny TSB applied.

What bothers me most is that after releasing the gas pedal after hard acceleration, the car sticks at 5,000 RPM for a few seconds before upshifting into 7th/final gear. That's annoying.

I guess from what I am reading here there is no fix for that yet...

FYI...I reset the ECU this morning on the off chance that the tech didn't do it after updating the TCM program. I drove it around the local roads (pushed it hard) hoping to teach it to be a little more aggressive. I won't know if there was any impact made by this until Thursday when I hit the highway but will let you know. One thing I did notice during my "learning drive" after resetting was the a the flare is there and very, very noticeable especially during heavy acceleration. Will Infiniti ever find a fix for this...feels like a slipping clutch but know that is not the case.

This is exactly how my car acts. I hate the high rpm sticking after flooring and releasing the throttle before it upshifts. However, my Audi A3 with the DSG tranny does pretty much the same thing when not in the manual or DS mode.. I don't think this is something that will be addressed by Infiniti.

I took mine to the dealer last week for the "flare" problem. They kept the car overnight and had one of the techs drive it home. Of course, he couldn't replicate the problem, so the problem doesn't exist in their mind. They fixed the rough downshift several months ago, but now this problem keeps coming up. I'll just keep hounding them everytime I take my car in. Maybe they'll get tired of listening to me bitch and try to get Infiniti to come up with a fix. What a pain!

Not sure how they could not replicate it. It is very predictable and easily reproduced. With a warm engine, start the car and drive it. When it shifts from I think it is 4-5 the RPMs will surge up a bit before it shifts. It generally only does it the first time you have to make that shift though, so you have to be paying attention when it does. Taking it home would do nothing. If it was cold when he left work and cold when he came back he would never see it.

same 09/08. I wonder if it has to do with our batch.

anyone else having this issue (manufactured 09/08) ?

we monitored everything and didn't see anything out of the ordinary... but it's driving me nuts. poor mpg... major throttle lag... slow acceleration until 4th gear...

time to figure out how to get my throttle to open more quickly.

Sure would be nice to isolate the issues you and are having to a specific mfg period...might mean I'm not totally nuts with my issues as some people seem to believe.

You misunderstood me. I'm saying that the cars produced just two months later do not have the problem, nor do any produced after that. Therefore they must have figured out what was wrong and fixed it.

Surely that would never have happened

mw09G37,

That's interesting about the time period. My car was also made in 9/08. Now I'm really wondering what is going on...

Sh*t happens....I still love the car though. I just do not like the "fix" of taking the sport out of my sport. I believe I have learned my lesson in terms of flashes...if it ain't broke don't fix it. Had I known then what I know now I'd still be cruising on the original program.
