Lemon laws are state-by-state. Usually involving an unsolved repiar problem over - incidents X time or instantly via life-threatening issues (bad brakes, acceleration problems, catastrophic suspension issues, etc.). e.g., it has to be really bad with lots of repairs before most state's lemon laws will kick in. I don't think this issues is going to qualify....infinity will push it to the limit on this one because replacing ECU's possibly multiple times for, say, 50% of the G37 population is too expensive.

Not sure if you have made up your mind about the G yet... but here is my 2 cents on the matter. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy this car again.... especially knowing there is not a permanent fix as of yet
(or ever). This is just my opinion though since I'm super sensitive to the sound. You may not be able to hear it at all.

I don't know what else to do. My husband has a call out to the Department of Justice to see about Lemon Laws, but I have a feeling I'm stuck. I'm very frustrated at this point. I would like to get rid of the car altogether. Anyone want to buy an 09 G37 Sedan? Mint condition.
I don't think you will ever settle in one car for a long enough period if you give up that easy. The issue is not something major or dangerous in anyway. I have this noise too and while it's bothering me sometimes, it's something I can live with until a fix is found. Every car has it's issues and I'm glad it's just a slight noise and nothing serious.

Good luck with whatever car you end up with.

I just took mine in today, and they couldn't hear the noise. What we really need is someone who has access to an audio meter that has an exceptionally high frequency range to measure the sound. A better solution would be to hook a mic up to an oscilliscope and see if it picks up the sound. The noise is very consistent, so it should stand out like a sore thumb during the test. Don't give up on the car just yet...we'll figure out how to crack this one.

I wonder if there is anyway to really verify that Infiniti is working on this issue like they said they are. I highly doubt their engineers are trying to trouble shoot this issue. Are their any lawyers in here that can give advice on how to maybe light a fire under them so know we are very annoyed by this issue? I say lawyers because threat of legal action is the only thing that would make Infiniti sweat.

I'm the same way. This noise is so loud that I believe it can cause hearing damage a the higher frequencies.

Maybe Ozzy can tell us the name of his dealership that recommended insulating the ECU and said it was Infiniti's suggestion. We still need to find someone with an audiometer that can isolate the frequency and give us a db reading since it has to be very high.

Yes, I have a 2009 sedan and have it. Sounds more like a high pitch whistle to me. Thought it was the wind for a while.

Dealership is Bullard in Mobile. I think those guys are a little nuts though, because the day I went down there to have the insulation job done, the service manager said something about how some dude had called them asking about the same fix, and that I had told him about the fix and the dealership on a G37 forum. Which is all true.

However, the service manager acted like he didn't know what this guy was talking about, and that it was all a big mystery. IN retrospect, it could have been, because these guys deal with a ton of problems everyday, and I'm sure he could have forgotten (months ago). But I did make a big deal about it at the time, so I would think they'd remember.

Interesting. Do you have the listing of what they actually showed on your trouble ticket? I'd like to give my service manager something to chase down with Infiniti vs. hope that someone at his shop will have as good of hearing as you and I and can actually figure it out. I think my chances of having them sort it out without help are slim.

Is your noise completely gone with the interim fix?

No, I never did it. The tech kept going on and on about how he would have to tear up the dash to get to the ECU, and then cover it with insulation, and he made it into a horror story. I didn't want them tearing up my brand new car's interior and then putting it back together, and it was clear the tech didn't want to do the work. And if the guy was this recalcitrant, well, I didn't want him working on the car. I didn't know how he was going to treat it. I had my G8's dash torn apart by a tech, and it was never the same again. I do need to find my paperwork though, and see what it says.

So, no fix. Sorry - wish I had better news. The noise still bothers me from time to time. Was driving me crazy today, really irritating.

Edit: Oh, and my tech heard it right away. I asked for their youngest guy. He was in his twenties. He heard it clear as day.

Unbelievable. I was hoping that whatever they did to your car would have worked. I'm like you...you can't take apart a dash and expect it to ever be the same. I still think we need to find someone with a quality audio sound level meter that can isolate the frequency and the DB rating. My guess is that the noise is at a level that will cause hearing damage. If that ends up being the case, Infiniti will have to find a solution or risk ending up with a bad reputation like Audi did with the bad transmissions a couple of decades ago.

Update: Ok, after taking my car back a second time (the first time around no one could hear the noise), I finally get one of the younger techs verify that he heard the sound. He said it sounded like a "grounding problem". Apparently I'm the first person at this particular dealership to complain about the problem. Anyways, they told me they spent all day talking to Infiniti tech support trying to find a solution. Turns out, there is no solution... which was not a total surprise after reading about other peoples' experiences on here. The manager assured me that Infiniti engineers were 'furiously working on a solution, as this is a known problem'. So I told the manager my concern that the reply "We're working on it" roughly equates to a blow off from Infiniti since this seems to be a problem that only a minority of people hear. He assured me that Infiniti would not say they are "working on something" if they were not truly doing so.

I suggested that they trying swapping out the ECU, but apparently Infiniti has tried this before, and it does not solve the problem. So I guess I'm just going to sit and wait until they come out with a fix. The loaner G37 they gave me had the same noise, btw.

Silver37: Not only am I worried about hearing damage, but I'm also starting to worry about my blood pressure! Knowing how much I paid for that car and having to hear that noise for >2 hours a day really pisses me off. Lately I've been training myself to not focus on the noise because it only makes me mad. I try to make sure I'm in a Zen state before driving.

Mine is so bad that my ears are still ringing from a trip to the mountains last Sunday. I'm starting to carry ear plugs with me for when I can't stand the sound any longer. I'm trying to nail down anything more that I can tell them to help sort it out. Right now, it seems to start appearing after driving about 10 minutes and occurs at any speed. There is only a slight fluctuation when I go past the 1000 rpm level...I'm hearing below and above that point. The question is, if your dealership knows Infiniti is working on the problem, then why doesn't my dealership know about it? I need to skip the dealership and go to the top at Infiniti. Where are you anyway?
