weight and performance

I'm really considering adding a 10inch sub (in a normal square sub box) I'm guessing it weights about 15lbs. Along with the sub I would also have to add an amp (about 7-10 lbs). And depending on how much it pushes out maybe a few sheets of hush mat (about 4lbs)... I really want to make this happen but I'm concerned about what the added 25-30lbs would do to the performance of the car, (Mostly concerned about the acceleration from slow speeds), an 08 coupe 6MT
What effect do you think the added weight would have?

Also, I'm considering adding a traditional (not the CF) Fast Intentions exhaust, which is said to add 11hp and 6lbs of torque. Do you think this would offset the newly added weight of the sub and amp?

Thanks for your input,
MyGcoupe

You'll be too busy bumping your new system to notice any extra weight. Go for it.

Best way to compensate for the 25-30 lbs gain on your car is to lose the 25-30 lbs in your gut. =P

25lb wont be noticable in daily driving. If you want you can take your spare and jack out to off set the weight.

Funny you should write about this ... theres another post regarding dead batteries. You might also want to consider the sub and amp killing your battery leaving you stranded on the road. Read the post on dead batteries to see what other G owners are unfortunately having on their rides. If you do go ahead with this, you might want to consider a secondary battery which will unfortunately add more weight.

I'm not too worried about this because most of the time that i play my music is while the car is running (thus charging the batt.) Is this a frequent issue? I've never heard of this happening due to a more powerful stereo system. (besides its not that much of a power boost, just something to add a little extra sound)

I thought I read somewhere that for every ~30 lbs you add, your quarter mile time increases by .1 or .2 seconds *shrugs* Hardly noticeable. If you take out your spare tire, that should even things out.

Not buying it! I had my Sub system installed 2 weeks after I purchased the car. 1 year 2 months not one issue with the battery.

You do not need a second battery. You need a professional installation don't do it yourself unless you are a pro!

Batteries generally last 3 years. They can last longer yes. But you should junk it and buy a new one every 3 years to be safe.

PS: its a Kicker Mono 400RMS amp with Kicker CompVR 10" woofer.

^You don't need a pro for install on a system. You can do it yourself and save 300 bucks. Just do some research so you know what you are doing...

I agree that normally you wont need a second battery. In all my other cars I've had an amp and sub, however there are a fair amount of G owners who have posted about their batteries dying ... some after 3 months new. Read http://myg37.com/forums/g37-coupe/18...y-already.html

^^^Sounds like people are having issues with faulty batteries. It doesnt mention anything about aftermarket stereos being the issue.

My system has been running for over a year now with no issues from my battery.
