wow, the lowest mileage i got was on my first tank, which was ~17mpg. i'm at about 20-21mpg now, but i've been driving conservatively on the most part, and about 40/60 city/highway @ 1350 miles.

well hopefully your mileage improves over the next few tanks.

Im getting 12-13 mpg on my car and I have 500 miles on it. I am not even driving "fast" or pushing it over 4k rpm? Is there something wrong here?

^Yes, it will improve over time. The first few months of my G35C 6MT only averaged about 18-19mpg, but after break in and change up driving habits it was getting a consistant 22-24 mpg on average with mixed hwy/city driving.

Now on the G37S 6MT, i started out gettin 17mpg and after 1350 miles i now get about 20mpg. Got the car on Dec 1st, so i'm hoping after another month or so I can get it up to 23mpg consistently like I did on my G35C. I drive about 90% hwy miles for work as well, so i'm currently disappointed with the VVEL engine claiming better gas mileage.

do u guys reset it at all? i dont want to reset mine till 3K miles. i am at 1400 now, and i ave 18.3

i was actually playing with this last night. it turns out that i can go 63 mph in 6th and have my MPG meter maxed, reading the 30 MPG. for the people interested in this, turn on your MPG on your nav screen, and leave it on for the full ride. your driving style might change :P

My mileage is actually dropping. From 19mpg to 16mpg. Don't know why. I never ever go pass 4k on the revs. I have 8k miles.

The guys at the G35 forum are in denial. Some are claiming to get 23mpg. But I think its all hwy miles.

I think there will be a few getting weird number but the majority would be getting the avg of 16-19mpg on avg.

I drove to work today. That was 14 miles away. My mpg thing said that I had 177 miles left on the tank. When I arrived (14) miles later, it said 178 miles left. These numbers are easily manipulated.

I don't think we can trust the fuel consumption info from the car.
I get different readings from the crystal display vs the nav unit.

One option would be to try the following:
-- Allow your gas to drop to a half tank
-- Note the mileage and reset your trip odometer
-- Fill up and note how gallons of gas you've added
-- Note the mileage or the trip when the gas is again at the half tank mark
-- divide the mileage by the gallons of gas for the results

I personally don't think it's worth the trouble, but if you really want to know - this is an option.

Bottom line: THE PRICE OF GAS IS TOO DAMN HIGH!!!

^ Or, assuming you fill up completely each time, just drive like you normally do to almost E, fill up, note the gallons put in and divide the number on the trip by the gallons just put in. I've found this to be inline with the Nav average.

The nav MPG meter estimates mileage based on driving habits. So if you're reving to redline through every gear it will estimate what your expected MPG/ miles to empty will be based on that. Get back on the highway and cruise in 6th you will see these numbers change. Hard math will always be the most accurate.

Yeah, when I display it on my navi, I play a game where I try to always keep it above 20mpg.

I see this all the time. Last weekend, I drove from Riverside to Irvine (~35 mile trip) and my range only went down like 3 miles. Since your average MPG is going up, this is to be expected.

Then when you hop back onto city streets, the range drops like the current domestic stock market.

3des I agree, hard math is the most accurate, but that's not what the G applies.
Like you stated:

So at best it applies a sophisticated algorithm or at worsts an educated guess.

Is it really based on habit? I thought it was simply your average mpg x remaining fuel.

^^^It bases it on habit also. If you tend to be an aggressive driver than your miles to empty will display that. You might notice this when you first fill up your car. Before I reset my ESU and drove aggressively, I would get around 400 miles until empty. Now I get around 330 miles until empty after my reset and started to drive more aggressively. Try it yourself some time. Reset your ESU and then drive it very conservatively for a week and then fill it up and see what you get, then reset it again but drive aggressively.

I'm averaging 19.8 miles per gallon. I calculated it the old fashion way by dividing the number of gallons when filling up into the total number of miles I'd driven.
