Yeah, my dad found a group of American guys down there and they basically all just band together to watch eachothers backs. They take group field trips to the ATM. One guys grabs his cash, and the rest stand out on patrol. He always has a fake wallet and keeps the real stuff in a thigh holder under his clothes.

But just everything, a girl jumped from an apposing balcony about 6 stories off the ground to his balcony just to steal a crappy point and shoot camera. This was my dads cleaning lady, they don't think down there. My dad paid her about $50 bucks every two weeks, which is a lot for them, and she blew it by stealing his $80 camera. So lets think about this, in 1 month of cleaning she would have made enough to buy the camera, now she has just one camera worth $80 retail, in brazil its next to worthless considering she didn't grab the charger, and now shes out of a $100 month job, and she doesn't clean my pops american friends places anymore either. so for a $80 camera, she had to have lost out on at least $500 a month. STUPID!!! I can go on and on with stories like that I hear from him.

Nice, Doc! I went about 9 years ago and was in the Campo Grande in Mato Grasso do Sul. Had a great time. Enjoy!

So Dr. Jones, the islands are now famous for being the closed place for the downed Air France flight. One of the prettiest places on the planet I'm told.

If you get to Natal, you can go dune bugging on the sand dunes created from the constant winds (across the new bridge to the north). These are huge dunes that you could hide a multi-story building between. You have to rent a driver as too many people were rolling the buggies on the 50 degree slopes. I have some pictures if you want. It was a real rush.

BTW - I'm off to Rio tomorrow...

**Woot* leaving on the 24th of December... not much longer to go. They've completely changed the way Americans obtain a Visa to get into the Country now. It's kinda' a bitch and they charge $130 fee for the Visa itself.

I looked high and low for pictures of the huge sand dunes just north of Natal and can't find them anywhere. I'll look again today.

My wife went to Rio this week for a month and told me it was 39 Celcius on the beach - too hot. Time enough for me to get some mods installed.....

Dune Pictures near Natal, Brazil

Doesn't it figure, looked and found a few of the pictures easily today on a memory stick. Here are some places to go dune buggy riding (ask for "with motion" so they take the steeper dunes and hang on).

Dunes with Natal in distance:

Some dunes that are marked with warning flags:

And some that aren't marked:

And just for laughs, here is the new bridge just before it was completed:

Let me know if you go dune riding (they also have sand skiing but it's pretty weak). Enjoy the sun (and wind in Natal).
