Plasma is also bad about glare (the screens are glossy) so need to be viewed in a completely dark room to be at their best. LCD screens aren't glossy. Plasmas are hot boxes, and when they screen goes it cheaper to replace the TV than fix it. They do tend to be better in general for fast motion, but LCD's aren't far off especially newer models with 120Hz Motion Flow technology and fast response times.
If you wait Sony and Samsung are launching their 240Hz sets this year .. With Blu-Ray it should look sick .. I still have to look twice with my Samsung lcd that has 120Hz when its being pumped by my PS3.. The pics look amazing .. 3-D at times and sometimes just really fake .. Overall I like it ...

4ms response time. God damn!

don't get anything in the 20ms range. 15ms or less, <10ms is good. 4ms is too good.

I'd look up Samsung, Sony, or Sharp.

Mine has 4ms as well. No motion blur that I've been able to see yet.

You'll have to sell both kidneys and a testicle to afford the new 240Hz response models by Sony and Samsung I'd guess, haven't seen prices yet. But then you're a baller Max so it's all good.

120hz looks terrible IMO. Go with the 52A650 or 750.

Plasma
Upside:
As little as 3 inches thick; very good home-theater image quality in best examples; wide viewing angle; superior motion resolution.

Downside:
Less energy-efficient than LCDs; slight potential for burn-in; sometimes lower native resolution than similarly sized LCDs.

Forecast:
Prices have fallen, and pictures have improved dramatically, perpetuating plasma's place as king of the flat-panel home-theater hill.

LCD
Upside:
Available in a range of sizes; matte screens generally reflect less light; no danger of burn-in.

Downside:
Home-theater image quality generally not as good as on plasma models; relatively narrow viewing angle.

Forecast:
Flat-panel LCDs will continue to be the most popular HDTV technology, thanks to falling prices and plenty of choices.

waddup max?? p.m. me when you get the chance i used to work @ best buy in the magnolia section (high end t.v.'s) so i know a little bit about t.v.'s hopefully i can help

seems like you've been doing some homework though...you have most of the info..if you want a plasma, make sure you dont have windows and stuff and it should be a dim lit room..get a Pansaonic or Pioneer Elite if you have the big bucks

LCD go for Samsung, most of there new stuff has pretty cool technology

Hahah, TV sponsorship.

Balla status indeed. There's always better ones, if you have a big budget, obviously get the absolute best there is.

That TV is my wheel money right there! :/

If you want to consider LCD, I'd suggest that you go to a BB or CC or somewhere similar with a lot of TVs displayed together in the size you want. If possible, check out the models DGC and I suggested side by side or close to each other to see which you like better. Take a DVD of something with lots of fast motion, a SuperBowl video for sports, Transformers has lots of good fast motion shots too. Take your time. See which you like better by actually looking at them after you've narrowed it down to a few.

I ruled out plasma for my tastes (couldn't take the glare or potential screen burn) so I don't really know models that are good, only brands. Pioneer, Samsung, and Sharp are some of the better plasmas.

Hey Max, I bought a Pioneer Plasma 2 years ago for $5K...CNET gave it the editor's choice aware and I've been impressed with it's quality, especially in HD. But believe it or not, if I were to do it again, I would go LCD. Plasma will get you burn in, especially if you have a PVR. I paid $1,000 for the extended warranty. Definately go for the warranty, whether you go with LCD or Plasma. Many reviews will point towards plasma for better pic quality if you're watching movies. If you're a gamer, def go with LCD...no question about it. If you're dead set on going with Plasma, go Pioneer...the new ones are sick and much better. Expensive, but well worth it. But many of the well known companies like Panasonic, etc all use the same displays. Kinda like how certain car companies have the same engine, but under a different name. Believe me, there's more than meets the eye here. Play it safe, get a LCD...a new one...get yourself a nice warranty and you'll be happy. Just my 2 cents
