How's everyone's reception on the iPhone1? It seems a good number of people get a fair amount of dropped calls and crappy reception. I hear how 3G will really improve sound quality. As much as I'm into the new technology, it means nothing if it can't hold a basic phone call. Especially since I'm coming from Verizon, where the service has been impeccable.

I'm in the same boat. i was going to get the 16gb, but I don't use the iphone as an ipod. That is why I have a nano. $100 for space I will never use seems like a waste. Even with the app store coming I think I'll be fine. i used so many apps through installer and still never broke over 2 gigs of used space.

Sounds like they will have plenty of the 8GB Black ones! Good luck to everyone who's going to grab one Friday I'm curious to see how big of a rush it will bring. I have an ATT store abot 1/2 mile from my house so I'm just going to ask tomorrow if they have any and about how many. I'll likely just wait til next week to get it.

They said that they will have plenty this time around, especially at the Apple Stores. Expcept that it's gonna take longer to purchase them since they have to do the activation in-store.

how many songs does the 8 gig hold? well not just songs like numbers programs etc? like i think i can do the 8 gig.. i have about 200+ numbers i would like some programs nothing crazy just some programs and music.. 8 should do me right?

i think im picking mine up fri, not sure if i should camp out or what i honestly do not kno

8GB is enough for most people. Unless you plan to put your whole itunes library on there including thousands of songs and movies, 8GB should be enough. I just barely filled up half of my memory, and I feel like I have a lot of stuff on my phone.

8GB = ~8192MB

8192MB space / ~4MB songs = 2048 songs

Of course that's a bit inflated since part of the memory space is allocated to the OS and other critical areas, but there's a ballpark ceiling estimate of what you can store. I would never even break the 1000 barrier for MP3's since I hate having songs that I never listen to...all they do is take up space. I think most people would agree 8GB is enough.

Yeh you have to account for movies too if you plan on adding one or two that's 1GB right there (iPhone movies are around 400-600MBs) so figure 2-3 movies and plenty of full albums. I used to put a movie or two on there and then just add new songs I would download, never got close to 8GB. I should have got the 4GB last time since it was cheaper but when I got mine in Novemeber they had already quit selling them. Unless you plan on using your iPhone as an iPod, if you already do or have an iPod, 8GB should be sufficient if you don't mind adding/removing if it became a problem. It's not worth the extra $100 esp. if you don't even know what you're going to put on there. The Apps won't be too big, probably nothing more than 20-30MBs (I could be wrong, very wrong but they shouldn't..). I'm going to update to 2.0 Friday morning and go from there. I don't need 3G asap.

If you go to Apple.com you can download iTunes 7.7. To enable apps you need to go to Prefereces and click Applications. There are about ~30 apps or so for now most are free or $.99 the one I want is $70! Forget that! I'm not to sure if 2.0 is going to be out tomorrow. The everything else has updated but the 2.0 software still says coming soon. Argghhh I hate Apple!
