You guys can also check on your ATT bill online, select the phone number and click Device/Phone and it will say if you are eligible for an upgrade. From what I've read, ANYONE who has a current 2G iPhone can get the 3G without any additional fees. For those with "other" ATT devices they cannot upgrade until there current contract expires, I don't even think you can pay more to get the iPhone.

they are cracking down on the new iphone with the unlocking.. its posted up on a diff g website... but if u want to unlock an iphone you have to get an older one.. diamond has his forsale when this is realesd.

Right now you have to activate the new phones in the store they will most likely not work on any other network for a few weeks. I'm sure someone has already figured out how to unlock 2.0 just a matter of time before info is posted.

Is there anything that compares to the Iphone thats coming out for CDMA, specifically, USCellular?

My girlfriend just bought that SPrint Instinct its CDMA but it's a piece of garbage, they tried to make an iPhone like device but failed miserably I would have returned that thing the same day I bought it just like I did with the HTC Touch. Isn't ATT entirely on a GSM network? I'm pretty positive they have completely switched over since GSM beganin the US back in '02. Don't expect a universal iPhone or CDMA like device anytime.

I believe you are correct in stating that AT&T is all GSM. My BlackBerry Curve (8300) is GSM quad band but it only works on the AT&T "Edge" network, not their 3D network. An iPhone 3D is interesting to me since I need access to websites, for work, at times via phone and the BB browser is a joke.

YEA 5yrs is the contract for No CDMA Iphones.... so... 4 5/8s remaining...lol

Actually, it's $30 a month with the new 3G service for the iPhone. I've heard a lot of people complain how it's "$10 more expensive", but in actuality, the previous data plan was a discounted price. If you look up data plans for other phones on AT&T, you'll see that it was always $30.

Yep, AT&T has a contract with Apple until 2012, so not even speculation for a CDMA iPhone until then.

8GB/16GB prices
$199/$299 for those not under contract
$399/$499 if you want to upgrade under contract
$599/$699 to buy w/o contract

The only thing i HATE about AT&T is their plan pricing structure. I'm on a family plan right now with 1400 minutes on Verizon, which is complete overkill. If I got 1400 on AT&T, I'd have so many rollover minutes it'd be ridiculous. The next step down is 700 minutes for $20 less, but that would be cutting it close every month. Why can't they have something in between?!?! Plus they're taking away the base text package that came with the data plan in the previous iPhone. Now you have to buy either 200 texts for $5, 1500 for $15, or $20 for unlimited. Again, I need something in between!

I'll probably grab mine the first of next week. I don't care to wait in lines or anything like that! I can download 2.0 and manage with 2G for a few more days. I'm pretty positive that you cannot buy an iPhone without a contract at least for now. I know the w/o contract prices are correct but for the time being Apple/ATT will no allow sales of the iPhone to anyone unless they have agreed and signed a new contract. Hey whatever ATT charges it's still cheaper than Sprint Everything package. In the end (after 2 yrs) it costs a bit more with the new plan but the price of the phone is cheaper and that's what people WANT to see. Smart move by ATT/Apple.

This is what ATT told me since I did an upgrade to get on the old iPhone back in February 2008.

"All of the previous iPhone users will be eligible for upgrade AND will pay only $199 for 8GB and $299 for 16GB. The contract will restart on the date you activate the new iPhone."


Since I sold my old one on ebay already, I'll be in line this Friday for the 3G!
