Movie/Music Review Thread

This thread is to see how many members would be interested in having a Movie/Music sub-forum in our Off-Topic lounge. Originally I was only looking for Movie reviews/opinions but I believe by including Music this would make the sub-forum more appealing than if it was just for movies. Basically, this will be a place for MyG37.com members to come read/post reviews and opinions about movies (theater, DVD, etc..) and also to discuss new music albums or future releases.

One concern I want to address specifically about this sub-forum (anticipating ; ] ) I do not want to have ANY threads that include links to download any movie or music album. While I am all about “sharing,” this will not be the place for that so please keep that in mind.

Please post if you would be interested in having and/or contributing to such a forum. I find myself reading movie reviews from people that don’t exactly have the same ‘taste’ I do so I figured if we all have the same car we might be on the same page more so than not!

Since it is Christmas I am really looking forward to seeing several new movies this week. National Treasure, Sweeney Todd, Walk Hard, and Charlie Wilson’s War. So far I have only been able to see National Treasure. I will do my best to post some reviews when I get a chance this week!

Movies and Music sound great as a sub-forum. I vote yes. And DiamondGCoupe, you can be honest with us, your really going to go watch "Alvin and the Chipmunks" aren't you?

Combining Movies/Music would make a great sub forum for The Lounge. I'm in.

Bruin, if you liked I Am Legend, check out Omega Man with Charlton Heston from about 1975. Based on the same story but somewhat different. Both were based on the same novel but each one changed the story to make for a more "Hollywood" type of screenplay.

I was going to with my friend and some girls she babysits but didn't happen. I originally thought that Ryan Renolds (Van Wilder) was going to play Dave not Jason Lee so I wasn't too excited to see it. Will be seeing Charlie Wilson's War later this evening hope its good.

Saw the trailer for Cloverfield and the next Batman movie, The Dark Night. Does anybody know what they're fighting against in Cloverfield? Godzilla?

It was good not great. I liked the original one a little bit more but I'd recommend Book of Secrets if you liked the first one.

It was "alright." The original was much better. It had a beleiveable story line but like many critics said it was very fictional so it wasn't even a good history lesson!

My first instict was Godzilla too! The new Batman movie actually looks decent for a change.


I saw Charlie Wilson's War the other day, great movie, very whitty and funny. Not really a Julia Roberts fan but Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour-Hof.. were a good pair.. I think I know where GW got his War ideas from!

Has anyone seen 'Walk Hard' was it any good? I understand it was directed by the same guy who did Tale Nights and Superbad but did J. Reilly pull it off??

Next movie will be Sweeney Todd and I'd like to know if The Great Debaters is worth catching in the theaters or if I should just wait around for DVD..

^^^Someone told me that Cloverfield is about some virus (I think that is what he said). I did a google search just now and I guess it is some secret as to what is causing all the damage. It is suppose to be an apocalyptic movie. I doubt it is a Godzilla move after reading some of the stuff.

Edit: That Adam Sandler movie looks funny!

Finally got to see 'Sweeney Todd' last night. It was a fairly decent movie seeing as it was a broadway play. I wasn't really into the whole musical thing but most of the singing was quick and not over-kill. Got a little disappointed when Sacha Baron Cohen was killed but the few minutes he was alive were hilarious! 'To shava da faceeeee..' hahaha everytime he talked I could hear Borat/Ali G/Bruno in his voice, gotta love it! Another perfect Johnny Depp part, very dark and appropriate for him.

My next movie will be 'Juno' it looks like a great movie I hope its as good as it looked in the trailer.. Has anyone seen this one yet??

Yes yes but a movie title that includes 'The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' one can only assume people are going to die! I'll pay more attention to that next time around, I was only interested in seeing the movie cause he was in it.
