12,000 mile engine oil flush

I'm in at the dealer this morning getting my oil changed and the service advisor recommend that I have the engine oil flushed next service. I was given a price of $129.99 and that includes my mobile 1 synthetic oil change and filter change that I normally get done plus the flush. He said it can prevent sludge and deposit buildup in the oil pan and other engine parts. What I'm wanting to know is it worth it? Anyone ever have it done?

Uhmm, isn't that what an oil change is for??

Just another way to rake in $$$.

I'm no mechanical expert but I though sludge wasn't an issue with synthetics. I always heard flushes were bad since some sort of "thinner" (not paint thinner) was used and the car run for a short period of time. That "thinner" product doesn't provide the protection that oil does so it can hurt a car. Now I'm going on some things I was told once a long time ago, things may have changed now.

Do not waste your money. You don't need any "engine flush". 12K mikes is barely broken in good for a modern engine. There is no sludge in there to flush. Don't continue to do business with someone so blatantly trying to rip you off. Next he'll offer to clean your spark plugs for $100.

I don't think an oil flush is any more of a ripoff than pushing synthetic or 3k oil change intervals.

^^^ $130 for a service that is 100% NOT NEEDED?! That sounds like a HUGE ripoff to me. Yeah, synthetic isn't required nor are 3000mi intervals.....but to push an engine flush on someone with only 12,000 miles?!? That's CRAP. SCAM. RIPOFF. Engines shouldn't be flushed anyways. Regular oil and filter changes with quality products will prevent varnish and sludge. Just my $.02.

we do have a system that fully cleans and pushes the deposits out of the car. If you're leasing the car, people could care less. But if you're owning the car to run it up to 200k and drive it hard, there are dirt and grime that you see come out of the system...

Honda specifically and expressly recommends against engine oil flush procedures in their engines. Says it actually can cause the engine to prematurely fail.

You mean I've been driving a Honda all this time?!?!

I just can't see how a car can benefit from an oil flush that early, period.
