The two I'm using currently have held up for ~6 months without significant shedding yet, the last two I was using before that began shedding after ~3 months, and I've moved those to the wheels, so they've lasted ~9 months, but definetly show wear/shedding at this point. I have no problems paying $5/mitt every 3-6 months for new mitts anyways, so I'll continue to hand pick the ones at walmart. I also remove the elastic banding at the base to further prevent scratching of the paint

I bought 2 mits for $17 each and they lasted 2-3 washes each so $34 for 1 month of washes which is more than I'm willing to spend. I

hmm...well I live in NW Ark. aka wal-mart land so I'll def. have to stop by and get some, but the ulti-mits are also on their way so I guess we'll see which I like better.

I bought about 20 microfiber cloths from Costco and use that.

IMO, MF, especially cloths, are some of the worse car washing choices out there because they don't shed dirt well at all, I can hardly get them clean from machine washing, let alone in a bucket with dilute car wash solution

I agree with redlude on this one. MF Wash mitts do not touch my paint. I stick to sheepskin wash mitts and now have a place for the Lake Country Ulti-Mit, an alternative to the Edge SchMITT.

Guys... out of these two wash mits, which would you get? Anyone have personal experience with either?

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/vk-103.html

OR

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-woolmitt.html

I already have the perfect shine kit from the site, figured i'd invest in some quality WASH products now. I plan to buy the Sonus High Gloss shampoo as my car wash solution.

Thoughts? Comments? Thnx! =)

Both are 100% sheepskin so I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Tru, im gonna get the one with the cut out for my thumb. Thnx for postin!

Also gonna check out their new line of products called Ultima... its def hyped up and seems impressive. Lotta ppl talkin, so i think imma jump on this while they have a introductory offer on this sample kit for $36.

Normally the stuff is PRICEY, but its supposedly the NEW HOT thing in the detailing world.

So much so that Autopia is going to STOP offering Meguiars products all together... and some other names are gettin dropped as well.

Picked up one of these at AutoZone and I'm thoroughly impressed. It's super-soft and has the deep nap of a sheepskin mitt. The best of both worlds. Also, the glass-specific micro-fiber towels that Auto Zone have work wonders on the glass.

Boars Hair Brush

Put dawn and water in old spray bottle and do not use a bucket. Wet area with hose, spray on dawn+water, clean with brush, rinse, move on. About every couple of sections blast the brush with clean water.

Will not scratch. If your boars hair brush gets dirty, put it in a 25% bleach solution for 15 minutes then hose off. Mine is 4 years old and has 100s of washes on it and looks and works like new. Gets into tight spots, behind side view mirrors, into body panel joints, into areas being neglected on your car now.

Maybe it's just because I am somewhat anal when it comes to my car.......but there is NO way that I would use a brush to clean the paint surface of my car. That's just me though.

I thought that too until I was forced to use one when I worked for a high end car detailing company. A brush ROLLS the dirt away, a cloth holds onto the dirt. It is the difference between trying to move a boulder by rolling or dragging. A brush pushes SIDEWAYS, a cloth pushes DOWN. Thats the way it was explained to me. A brush has so many advantages over a cloth that it is a clear choice once you have tried it. It is a DRAMATIC difference.

My boars hair brush is so soft you cannot feel the ends of the bristles, but the hair shaft is so rigid that you can use pressure when you want.

Interesting info, thanks for sharing. I've never used a boars hair brush myself, so I don't have any experience with one. It's just the though of using a "brush" in general on my paint is what makes me shudder. I might have to check one out.
